  2.            Video Blaster FS200 Common Questions and Answers
  3.            ================================================

  5. This  file  contains some  common problems faced and the solutions to
  6. those problems.  Please read the  sections below when you encounter a
  7. problem, and  call  our Technical  Support  when  you cannot  find an
  8. answer in this file.
  9.

  12. Problem : Error in opening MCI Driver.
  13.  
  14. Causes  : 1. VIDEOBLST_FS200  environment  string   was  not  set  up
  15.              properly.
  16.           2. The applications were not set up properly.
  17.  
  18. Solutions :
  19.  
  20. 1.  Check   that  the   AUTOEXEC.BAT   file  contains  the  statement
  21.     SET VIDEOBLST_FS200=C:\VBFS200 A:6D4 I:10 M:14 T:3. If any of the
  22.     entries are missing, you need to run FS200ENV  ( see Chapter 3 of
  23.     User Manual).

  25. 2.  Run WINSETUP  (see  Appendix B  of  User Manual, or  refer to the
  26.     README.TXT file).

  30. Problem : No video image.
  31.  
  32. Causes  : 1. VGA cable is not connected to the video card.
  33.           2. Wrong input source selected.
  34.           3. Video image is not aligned with the VGA monitor.
  35.  
  36. Solutions :
  37.  
  38. 1.  The connection  may be  wrong,  refer to  Figure 2-7  of the User
  39.     Manual on the correct connection.
  40.  
  41. 2.  Run Video Blaster FS200 Setup (in Windows)  or FS200SET (in DOS).
  42.     Use the  Video Source  drop-down list  to select  the appropriate
  43.     video source (see Chapter 5 or 7 of User Manual).
  44.  
  45. 3.  See below (under "The live image has a magenta border").
  46.

  49. Problem : The live image has a magenta border.
  50.  
  51. Cause   : Video image is not aligned with the VGA monitor.
  52.  
  53. Solution :
  54.  
  55. Run  Video Blaster FS200 Setup  (in Windows)  or  FS200SET  (in DOS).
  56. Click for the System Settings dialog box, under Video Alignment, drag
  57. the X Offset slider for horizontal alignment.  Then drag the Y Offset
  58. slider for vertical alignment.

  62. Problem : The video image has no color.
  63.  
  64. Cause   : 1. The broadcast standard is not selected correctly.
  65.           2. Saturation is set to 0.
  66.  
  67. Solution :
  68.  
  69. 1.  Run Video Blaster FS200 Setup (in Windows)  or FS200SET (in DOS).
  70.     Click  for the  System Settings  dialog box  to appear.   Use the
  71.     Signal Type  drop-down list  to select the  appropriate broadcast
  72.     standard.
  73.  
  74. 2.  Run Video Blaster FS200 Setup (in Windows)  or FS200SET (in DOS).
  75.     Click for the  Color Settings  dialog box  to appear.  Adjust the
  76.     Saturation control until color re-appears.
  77.

  80. Problem : Cannot load a JPEG file.
  81.  
  82. Cause   : Some  JPEG  file  formats  are  not   suppported  like  the
  83.           YUV 4:2:0.

  85. Solution :

  87. Use a file conversion utility to convert the file to another format.
  88.

  91. Problem : Flickering of VGA screen.
  92.  
  93. Cause   : 1. Some connections are not secure.
  94.  
  95. Solution :

  97. 1.  Ensure that the feature connector and video  interface cables are
  98.     firmly secured.

  102. Problem : Flickering of live video.
  103.  
  104. Cause   : 1. Some connections are not secured.
  105.           2. Video source may not be functioning.
  106.  
  107. Solution :
  108.  
  109. 1.  Ensure that the feature connector and video interface  cables are
  110.     firmly secured.
  111.  
  112. 2.  Ensure that your video source is in  reasonable  condition  e.g.,
  113.     having a clean VCR head.
  114.

  118. Problem : VGA blanks out when running Video Blaster FS200 software.
  119.  
  120. Cause   : Screen resolution may be too high.
  121.  
  122. Solution :
  123.  
  124. The  Video Blaster FS200  will work with the  following common screen
  125. resolutions:
  126.  
  127. a)  Standard VGA resolutions, up to 640x480x16 colors.
  128. b)  640x480x256 colors
  129. c)  640x480x32K colors
  130. d)  800x600x16  colors
  131. e)  800x600x256 colors
  132.  
  133. f)  640x480x64K colors  }
  134. g)  800x600x32K colors  } --> On certain VGA cards only
  135. h)  800x600x64K colors  }
  136.  
  137. At higher resolutions than these,  the VGA screen may blank out.  Use
  138. a lower video screen resolution, e.g. 800x600x256 colors.

  141.  
  142. Problem : VGA screen gets brighter while running  Video Blaster FS200
  143.           software.
  144.  
  145. Solution :
  146.  
  147. This is not  a problem.  The  Video Blaster FS200 enhances  the video
  148. image when active,  including the VGA screen.  As a result the screen
  149. may get a  little brighter while  the Video Blaster FS200 software is
  150. active.  A very soft click will be heard when the Video Blaster FS200
  151. is activated or deactivated.

  155. Problem : FS200DOS runs out of memory while loading or saving images.
  156.  
  157. Cause   : There is insufficient conventional memory in your system.
  158.  
  159. Solution :
  160.  
  161. FS200DOS requires about  500+ KBytes of system conventional memory to
  162. run.  Release any unneeded TSR's in order to free up more memory.
  163.

  165.  
  166. Problem : The live video is OK, but the image cannot be saved to file
  167.           or clipboard.
  168.  
  169. Cause   : 1. The framebuffer is mapped to extended memory,  and there
  170.              is 16MB (or more) memory in your system.
  171.           2. The framebuffer is mapped to expanded memory,  and there
  172.              is a conflict with your memory manager.
  173.  
  174. Solution :
  175.  
  176. 1. If you have 16 MB (or more) of memory in your system,  you need to
  177.    use expanded memory for the Video Blaster FS200 framebuffer.   Run
  178.    FS200ENV  to set up the  Video Blaster FS200  for  expanded memory
  179.    usage.
  180.  
  181. 2. If you are using expanded memory for the framebuffer,  and you are
  182.    using an expanded memory manager (e.g. EMM386 or QEMM386),  ensure
  183.    that  your  memory manager  does not allocate  the Video Blaster's
  184.    framebuffer area for its own use.  FS200ENV may be  able to detect
  185.    this condition and warn you of it.

  187.    If  this   happens,   either   choose   another  region   for  the
  188.    Video Blaster FS200,  or run  your memory management  utilities to
  189.    mark the region as  "RAM"  to allow the Video Blaster FS200 to use
  190.    it.
  191.  
  192.    For Windows 3.x users,  also  check  that  there  is  a  statement
  193.    "EMMExclude="  in  your  SYSTEM.INI  to  inform  Windows  that the
  194.    Video Blaster FS200 will be using that region for its framebuffer.

  198. Problem : The mouse cursor disappears when moved into the video area.
  199.  
  200. Cause   : Colorkey is disabled.
  201.  
  202. Solution :
  203.  
  204. Re-enable colorkey  by pressing  CTRL-K.  (This will work only within
  205. the Video Blaster FS200 Windows and DOS programs.)
  206.

  208.  
  209. Problem : FS200DOS  says  "This  program  requires  a  VGA card  that
  210.           supports VESA".
  211.  
  212. Cause   : No VESA driver is installed in the system.
  213.  
  214. Solution :
  215.  
  216. FS200DOS will only work on systems  that support the VESA  VGA modes.
  217. Check  that your  VGA card is  supplied with VESA.  Some  VGA vendors
  218. supply  VESA drivers  in their  installation disks.  Load that driver
  219. before loading FS200DRV and running FS200DOS.
